Last year, we posted that we'd been lucky enough to get involved with the Wentworth Castle Gardens Union Jack Gardens project. We were allocated a 'slice' of one of the two union jacks, and we'd made a small start hacking through the overgrowth.
Well, we've been back a good few times now and the garden is coming on nicely. A couple of setbacks have kept us away, including the temporary closure of the gardens for new path renovations, but we're cracking on. While we do have a deadline of the 25th September for most of the garden to be complete, we're welcome to go back and finish things off (including the planting of our 'feature' plant, which we'll reveal when they're ready).
We've chosen to place a path in our segment using bark chippings and logs, and to keep some dimension to the garden with different heights from existing plants. One of our rules was to keep the existing Yew and Mulberry trees, though our Yew was a little worse for wear... It was a tall stump. However, our stump is pretty stunning in itself, with the lamination making it a unique feature in the centre of the segment. We've therefore taken our path between the Yew and the Mulberry, surrounded by some tall ferns, to make it a twisty, forest-y journey through. We also have some ideas to replicate a couple of features in the cemetery, bringing our group's identity into the garden.
Anyway, if I keep rambling on, I'll ruin the surprise. When all is done, we'll shout about it on social media. Just thought we'd stick an update here for our readers. Keep an eye on Facebook, for on the 25th September, what we've done so far will be revealed to all! In the meantime, here are some photos of us hard at work.
